The D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans can accommodate individuals with a range of care needs. Options include:
Domiciliary Unit - Serves the individual requiring a structured environment.
Skilled Nursing Care - Serves the individual requiring long-term care or rehabilitation needs.
Memory Care Unit - Serves the individual who is ambulatory, but suffering from Alzheimer's disease or other dementia. This 26-bed unit provides a structured program and environment to assure members suffering from dementia remain ambulatory and independent for as long as possible.
The Jacobetti Home offers physician coverage as well as the following services: pharmacy, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, rehabilitation (in-patient), mental health, social work, routine dental examination, speech therapy, occupational therapy, laboratory services, recreation therapy, EKG and specialty clinics.
Additional services such as podiatry, dental services and vision services are available on a fee-for-service basis. The amount of the monthly payment is based on income, expenses, marital status and assets. Staff will assist members in applying for pensions, Social Security, VA, and long-term care insurance payments.
There is never a shortage of things to do at the Jacobetti Home. Popular outings include sporting events at nearby Northern Michigan University, swimming at the YMCA, bowling at Ishpeming Lanes, shopping trips, concerts, theatrical productions, picnics and visits to historical and scenic locations. Area veterans and civic organizations also invite members to fish, play bingo, share a meal or participate in parades and other patriotic events.
Many in-home activities are also available including bingo, movies, performances by area musicians, singers, comedians and choral groups, educational presentations, board games with tournament events, painting classes and a quilting/sewing/knitting group.
Daily offerings include a wood shop, ceramics shop, puzzle room and greenhouse. During fall and winter, pizza parties and social gatherings with NMU sports teams provide members a chance to meet the players they have been watching all season.
A monthly calendar of events and dietary menu are distributed to members, posted on bulletin boards throughout the Home and shown on the in-house TV channel. Additionally, daily activities are announced over the Home's public address system three times a day to remind members what is on that day's agenda.
In addition, religious services are offered each week for various denominations.
The Home is fortunate to have a very large and diverse volunteer program comprised of several veterans groups, civic organizations, college students and community members. These volunteers help enhance and maintain the highest quality of life for members.
