Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency launches 'Make A Veteran Smile'

Email This Page

The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency is calling for short videos and letters or cards to Michigan veterans with a goal of cheering up our patriots during these challenging times of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Heartfelt messages through the #MakeAVetSmile campaign can lift the spirits of veterans across the state, including those at our Michigan Veteran Homes in Grand Rapids and Marquette. Members of the homes are unable to receive visitors during the pandemic.

To kick off the campaign, MVAA Director Zaneta Adams sings a moving rendition of “God Bless America” in her video. U.S. Sen. Gary Peters thanks his fellow veterans for defending our country in his video. And this little girl – the daughter of a veteran – is sure to bring smiles with her video message to veterans.

Here are the details for the video and letter campaigns:

If you want to cheer up a veteran and show your appreciation for their service and sacrifice, you can write a letter, send a card or color a picture that lets the members of our two Michigan Veteran Homes
know they are being thought of during this difficult time. Michiganders young and old can mail their letters to:

Grand Rapids Home for Veterans
3000 Monroe Ave. NE
Grand Rapids, MI 49505
ATTN: Letters for Vets
D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans
425 Fisher St
Marquette, MI 49855
ATTN: Letters for Vets
Here's a great way to cheer up a Michigan veteran during this difficult time! Simply record a short video of you, your children or your family sharing a positive message. The videos will be shared with members of our Michigan Veteran Homes in Grand Rapids and Marquette, while some will also be posted on the MVAA's public Facebook page.
After you record and upload your video, email the link to

All it takes is a cellphone and a few minutes out of your day to show your appreciation for our veterans’ service and sacrifice!
